How many of you use daily reminders? For those of you who wonder what a daily reminder is, it basically is either a statement, affirmation, quote or reading that give us something to consider throughout the day AND is seen as a small, manageable item. People familiar with 12 step programs typically utilize these in an effort to stay focused on the “one day at a time” way of thinking.
So how does a daily reminder help us? Typically these allow us to focus on something positive in life during the day. Often people find a sense of comfort and serenity from the reminder as they attempt to correlate it to a part of their lives. This will often lead to a sense of accomplishment that intensifies ones’ feelings of self-worth. The “taking away” of guilt/shame over mistakes made in the past or disappointments felt tend to occur. Allowing one to have a visualization of something wonderful or uplifting encourages our belief in a pleasant future. We begin to feel a lifting of pain, hurt and suffering in our bodies, hearts and souls. There is freedom in that small daily reminder if only for a moment.
Being mindful of our thoughts, feelings and beliefs as related to the daily reminder appears to keep people grounded in ways that may be difficult to explain. It works! That is what is important. Anyone has access to the use of daily reminders. These become one of the great equalizers in our lives and are a great one as well.
An example of a daily reminder is in how we always end our blog. We use a quote by an individual that supports the points we are attempting to make. Each quote is thought provoking in some fashion and is helpful to each of us as we attempt to apply the “idea” to our own individual lives. We encourage you to each come up with your own daily reminders and unleash the power which each present.
“Everyone needs reminders that the fact of their being on this earth is important and that each life changes everything.” – Marge Kennedy
