November 3, 2012Addicts and the Fruit Fly
On the back cover of Gabe Berman’s book, “Live Like a Fruit Fly”, it states: “Fruit flies are born, begin attending to their fruit-fly agendas, then succumb to old age before witnessing a single change of season. They don’t waste time waiting for tomorrow.” The fruit fly can teach all of us a lesson. Life goes by quickly and it is important that we are consciously aware of how we spend our days. Addicts have this tendency to let time slide, to put things off until tomorrow and, sadly sometimes, tomorrow never comes. It no longer makes sense to “coast” through another day. The cover goes on to say: “We must learn to live like a fruit fly, not tomorrow but at this very moment, the one we are experiencing now.” Pay attention to your life! Make healthy choices! Stop wasting your life by staying in the addictions!
“Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice: It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” – William Jennings Bryan
